Five charged with 'terrorist propaganda' in SE Turkey


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Five local officials from two pro-Kurdish political parties have been charged with making ‘terrorist propaganda’ in southeastern Turkey a local court said on Sunday.

Turkish police detained 11 people including local officials from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) during simultaneous operations in the Bilecik district of Turkey’s southeastern province of Sanliurfa on Friday.

Hasan Yildiz DBP’s co-chair of Bilecik district bureau Yusuf Yesiltepe HDP’s co-chair of the district and DBP officials Aliye Kizildamar Huseyin Karayilan and HDP member Omer Karadag were charged with making “terrorist propaganda” Bilecik court said.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has floated the idea of lifting parliamentary immunity from HDP members of parliament because of its alleged support for terrorism.

The call was made with the backing of another opposition party Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).
