Kuwait- Islamic coalition against terrorism proclaimed in Riyadh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH Dec 14 (KUNA) -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced Tuesday night the formation of an Islamic military coalition to fight terrorism.The Saudi-led coalition groups 34 Islamic countries and will have its joint operations center based in Riyadh where it will coordinate the anti-terror military operations and develop the necessary mechanism in this regard the SPA reported citing an official statement.The coalition will join forces with friendly peace-loving countries and international organizations to coordinate the anti-terrorism effort and maintain the international peace and security.The 34 members of the coalition are Saudi Arabia Jordan the United Arab Emirates Pakistan Bahrain Bangladesh Benin Turkey Chad Togo Tunisia Djibouti Senegal Sudan Sierra Leone Somalia Gabon Guinea Palestine the Comoros Qatar Cote d'Ivoire Kuwait Lebanon Libya the Maldives Mali Malaysia Egypt Morocco Mauritania Niger Nigeria and Yemen.Ten other Islamic countries including Indonesia stated desire to join the coalition and are taking the necessary steps in this regard according to the statement.The formation of the coalition stemmed from belief in the tolerant teachings of Sharia (the Islamic law) which strictly tabooed all forms of terrorism and injustice the statement said.The coalition is based on the principles and objectives of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) therefore all members of the Organization are invited to join forces against terrorism.It is also in keeping with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations the international law and the right of self-defense the statement said renewing condemnation of the acts of terrorism whatever their sources or justifications might be.
