Jordan- Trump's Muslim ban grossly irresponsible says Prince Zeid

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) New York Dec.9 (Petra)--The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid Bin Ra'ad late Tuesday denounced the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's call for a ban on Muslims entering into the United States as "grossly irresponsible".

The UN official warned that such inflammatory call plays into the hands of extremist such as the Daesh terrorist group at the expense of ordinary Muslims who are also "eligible targets" of these radicals. "Stoking Islamophobia and hatred is exactly what the Daesh wants and thrives on" he said.

"Clearly while there's no love lost for those who perpetrate the violence and the killings of civilians it's a double tragedy when the innocent have to suffer because of the reaction" Prince Zeid told reporters.

"At the very least you expect that people running for public office will know enough of historical experience and the suffering of those who are going to fall in the crossfire if this escalation in rhetoric and passion eclipses calm and rational thinking about this" the Prince said.

Trump who is currently the Republican Party's front-runner for the November 2016 election on Monday called for blocking Muslims including would-be immigrants students tourists and other visitors from entering the states following last week's California shooting .
