Qatar- Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Forum from today
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Under the patronage of the Emir H H sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Forum organised by Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) will start today at Ritz Carlton Hotel today.
The three-day forum will host 60 speakers in two parallel series in which a number of academics researchers and experts will discuss issues of education in GCC states and regional and international environmental challenges facing those countries. Almost half of the researchers will be from Qatar and other GCC states.
The Forum’s programme will feature a lecture on challenges facing GCC states in a new international and regional environment to be delivered by John Mearsheimer a prominent American international relations theorists in the 21st century.
The opening ceremony in the evening will have guest lectures by Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary-General of Supreme Education Council (SEC) H E Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi and GCC’s first secretary-general.
Following on from the success of Third Annual Conference of Arab Research Centers held in December 2014 “The GCC Countries: Politics and Economics in Light of Regional and International Shifts and Changes” the ACRPS is now launching the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula Studies Forum.
This annual Forum will be organised in two tracks. The first will address a chosen topic of significance to the GCC states and will change each year while the second will discuss the broader challenges posed to GCC states by the regional and international environment and will feature as a permanent item on the Forum’s agenda.
This year ‘Education in the Gulf’ has been selected as the topic for the first annual meeting of the Forum. The SEC is scheduled to oversee a discussion panel as part of the Forum’s programme on education licensing and school leadership while Qatar University will supervise a session related to Gulf relations with East Asia in the axis of international relations.
The ACRPS is an Arab research institute with particular interest in the social sciences applied social sciences regional history and geostrategic affairs. To this effect the ACRPS coordinates and develops research publications projects and events on issues and challenges relevant to the Arab world. The ACRPS primarily conducts its work in Arabic but publishes in both Arabic and English.
The ACRPS was established in 2010 and is based in Doha Qatar with a second office in Beirut Lebanon. It is overseen by an executive board composed of Arab academics and intellectuals.
