HMC network takes pre-emptive steps

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) All facilities under the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) network provided highly effective services yesterday, when Qatar was drenched by a heavy downpour, it was announced.
As soon as the weather forecast become known, the entire network, including the Ambulance Service (AS) and Hamad General Hospital (HGH), activated its major incident response plans and took pre-emptive measures to ensure the continued delivery of safe and effective care.
This included ensuring all HMC facilities had enough medicines, other medical supplies and equipment on standby. HMC's major incident response teams were also put on standby and the Ambulance Service called in extra vehicles and staff to ensure they were ready to respond.
The Bone and Joint Centre was closed temporarily and patient appointments were rescheduled. Yesterday, the HMC Ambulance Service responded to more than 250 calls between 6am and 3pm, which was 50 more than the previous day and comprised of a mixture of regular emergency calls and road traffic accidents. In spite of the road and weather conditions, the Ambulance Service maintained excellent response times.
All HMC Emergency Departments across the network of hospitals continued to operate at full capacity throughout inclement weather.
Dr Yousef al-Maslamani, medical director, HGH, said the hospital's Emergency Department actually experienced a quieter than usual day. The Male See and Treat unit treated 160 patients while the Female See and Treat saw 78. HGH also treated six trauma cases.
"HMC's network of hospitals, Ambulance Service and HGH meticulously planned and were fully prepared in advance, said HGH medical director Dr Yousef al-Maslamani.
