Kuwait- US pledges USD 4 mln in aid of Sahrawi refugees in Algeria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON Nov 24 (KUNA) -- The US on Monday announced a contribution of more than USD four million in humanitarian assistance in response to the flooding in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf province west Algeria."The devastation across the five camps is unprecedented with some 7000 families left homeless and 30000 without access to health care" a State Department release indicated. The funds will be used to help replace food rations that were destroyed by the flooding and support the reconstruction of shelters schools and health clinics. The funds will also include support for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees the World Food Program and the UN Children's Fund the statement affirmed. (end) ak.gb
