US targets Daesh oil tankers

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) U.S.-led airstrikes have hit 116 oil tanker trucks in a village border town between Iraq and Syria a spokesman for anti-Daesh operations said Wednesday.
Col. Jeff Warren told reporters via video conference that the strikes in Abu Kamal since Sunday were the first of its kind.
"To minimize risks to civilians we conducted a leaflet drop prior to the strike. We did a show of force -- we had aircraft essentially buzz the trucks at low altitude" Warren said.
He displayed a copy of the leaflet on which a note in Arabic and English reads “Warning: airstrikes are coming. Oil trucks will be destroyed. Get away from your oil trucks immediately. Do not risk your life."
He said the leaflets that we dropped about 45 minutes before the airstrikes.
Warren said that the coalition has been targeting Daesh’s oil infrastructures for some time but recently found that many of the airstrikes' had minimal effect because Daesh was able to repair damage caused by the strikes.
He noted that the coalition has recently decided to target different components of the oil infrastructure that include tanker trucks.
The coalition calls the campaign Operation Tidal Wave II – a name derived from operations against Nazi oil facilities in Romania during World War II according Davis.
The airstrikes came shortly after Russia announced its aircraft have hit about 500 oil tanker trucks smuggling oil from Syria to Iraq.
