DoT in Abu Dhabi participates in World Road Congress Seoul 2015

ABU DHABI 28th October 2015 (WAM) -- The Department of Transport DoT in Abu Dhabi announced today the participation of a high-level delegation from the DoT and the Federal Transport Authority FTA in the 25th World Road Congress 2015.

The event will be held in Seoul from 2nd to 6th November under the title "Roads and Mobility - Creating New Value from Transport". Thirty-five transport ministers from around the world will be in attendance.

The delegation's commitment is in support of the UAE's contribution to road development worldwide and as part of its continuous efforts to host major and international transport events. The DoT has successfully won the right to host the renowned World Road Congress in 2019 which expects to welcome between 5000 and 7000 delegates visiting the capital. The Seoul Organising Committee will officially handover the proceedings and WRC Flag to Abu Dhabi and the UAE on Friday 6th November.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan DoT Chairman said "The participation of the DoT in the activities of this World Road Congress does not only represent an opportunity to accumulate international and global expertise in the road transport sector but also an opportunity to gain continued access to the world's experts with regards to road transport infrastructure. Our participation also supports our ongoing preparation to host the Congress in Abu Dhabi in 2019."

Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority FTA stressed that the UAE has hosted many world class events in recent years demonstrating its exceptional capability in conference venues international accessibility state of the art road infrastructure as well as its safety and security. Al Nuaimi added "The quality of road projects in the UAE has qualified the country to hold the first place worldwide in ensuring operational efficiency and sustainability in accordance with the highest international standards."

He stressed that the UAE being ranked the number one country in the quality of roads globally according to the Global Competitiveness Report issued by the World Economic Forum in 2014 - 2015 came as a direct result of the prudent policies and directives issued by the country's wise leaders who were always keen to see the UAE as first in all areas.
