Russia wins world fencing tourney in Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Russian team Saturday evening won the World Fencing Championship, epee, for juniors, after beating Austria in the final.
The tournament was held at the Kuwait Fencing Association hall.
In a strong match, Russian fencers, among the world's top ones, scored 45 touches, while their Austrian counterparts had 40.
Egypt, with a strong performance, came third after beating Spain with 45 touches for 35. The Kuwaiti team came seventh.
Up to 79 fencers from 13 countries took part in the two-day tourney, offering high performance, head of the referee committee Rashid Al-Shamali told KUNA.
The participation of eight of the world's 16 best fencers contributed alot to this, he added.
