Chinese President hopes more cooperation with Egypt

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday expressed desire to promote cooperation with Egypt in industry, infrastructure and security, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
During his talks with Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi in Beijing, which focused on bilateral cooperation, Xi said the two countries have cooperated in many sectors, with close exchanges between local authorities and in humanities and the military. "China and Egypt should continue high-level exchanges, promote industrial cooperation and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure and security," Xi was quoted as telling Al-Sisi. "The two countries also should continue to make joint efforts in multilateral arenas such as the United Nations to safeguard the common interests of developing countries," Xi suggested.
Al-Sisi is in Beijing to attend upcoming events marking the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
For his part, the Egyptian leader said he was glad to attend China's V-Day celebrations on behalf of the Egyptian people, according to the report.
"Egypt values its partnership with China and is excited about cooperating in the "Belt and Road" regional trade and infrastructure initiative," he said.
China's Silk Road Economic Belt, together with the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, were proposed by President Xi in 2013. The initiative brings together countries in Asia, Europe and even Africa via overland and maritime networks, with the purpose of boosting infrastructure building, financial cooperation and cultural exchanges in those regions.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of a number of deals in areas including industrial capacity and finance, the report said, without giving further details.
