17 Turkish workers kidnapped in Baghdad

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) At least 17 Turkish construction workers were kidnapped by masked gunmen in the north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The workers were employed by a Turkish company building a sports stadium in the north-eastern Sadr City district.

According to the BBC, official sources said that the workers were sleeping in caravans at the site when armed men wearing military uniforms reportedly arrived in pick-up trucks at dawn and took them away. Neither the identity nor the motive of the kidnappers was immediately known.

Turkey recently began carrying out air strikes against Daesh in northern Iraq and allowing US warplanes to use its bases to bomb such group.
