(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Larsen & Toubro Oman a subsidiary of India's engineering major L&T has been awarded two major contracts with a total value of RO33.65mn by Oman Electricity Transmission Co (OETC) for engineering procurement and construction (EPC) of grid stations.
'L&T Oman bagged two major orders from OETC for EPC of 132kV grid stations at Saada and the 220kV/132kV/33kV grid station at Madinat Sultan Qaboos' L&T said in a statement on Wednesday.
The total value of both orders is RO33.65mn a senior official at L&T Oman told Muscat Daily.
Apart from the Oman contracts L&T Construction won a QAR491.45mn order from Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation for its ongoing Qatar Electricity Transmission Network Expansion Plan phase XII. The order encompasses the EPC of two substation packages.
L&T also received an order from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for the construction of a 132/11kV substation in Dubai. Another order was bagged from a reputed Middle East customer for the supply of 33kV transmission towers the statement said.
Last December OETC awarded six contracts worth nearly RO88mn related to construction works of new grid stations expansion of a number of existing plants reinforcement of overhead transmission lines and consultancy services for construction of new grid stations in many wilayats in the sultanate.
These projects will contribute to strengthening the efficiency and reliability of the main network in Oman by reducing the demand on existing grid stations. The new projects are also expected to ease the demand caused by overpopulated areas in the regions covered by these grid stations.
OETC owns and operates the main network which transmits electricity from the generating stations to distribution load centres in all governorates of the sultanate. The main electricity transmission network operates at voltages of 132kV and 220kV with new transmission assets at 400kV under construction.
