Jordan- PM meets Swedish officials


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, currently on a visit to Sweden, met with a number of Senior Swedish officials and discussed with them means to forge closer bilateral ties in various fields, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.

Ensour met yesterday with Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Urban Ahlin and discussed with him Jordanian-Swedish ties as well as the latest developments in the region.

During the meeting, the prime minister reviewed the comprehensive reform process being implemented by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in the political, economic and social fields.

He also spoke about the current developments in the Middle East, mainly the Syrian crisis and its impact on the Kingdom.

Ensour reiterated Jordan's stance which calls for a peaceful solution to the crisis that ends bloodshed.

On the Palestinian issue, the prime minister said the region will not enjoy security and stability without a just and permanent solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Swedish official praised Jordan's role to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

Separately, the prime minister with Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom and reviewed with her the latest developments in the region.

Ensour spoke about the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan and the pressure placed by the influx of Syrian refugees on the Kingdom's education, health, water, and labour sectors.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, he stressed Jordan's support to efforts that aim at resuming peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis to bring about a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Swedish minister affirmed the importance of boosting cooperation and coordination between the two countries on various regional and international issues of common interest.

The prime minister also met with Swedish Development Minister Isabella Lovin and discussed with her means to enhance joint cooperation in various domains.

Ensour voiced Jordan's keenness to expand cooperation with Sweden in various fields. He also thanked Sweden for its support to projects that serve Syrian refugees in the Kingdom.

Jordan he said, is interested in benefiting form the Swedish experience to implement the Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project that would address water challenges facing the Kingdom.

The Swedish minister voiced understanding of the pressure placed on Jordan due to the Syrian crisis. She also expressed her keenness to increase cooperation with Jordan to serve development issues and projects that would improve the quality of life.

The prime minister is expected to attend this evening the Junior Water Prize Ceremony Award that will be held under the patronage of the King and Queen of Sweden.
