Qatar- Ministry issues 89th edition of Folklore magazine

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Culture, Heritage and Arts has released the 89th issue of Folklore magazine (Al Maathorat Al Shaabia).

Eminent historians, professors and sociologists have contributed in-depth articles on various topics.

Egypt's Zagazig University's Faculty of Arts Professor of Medieval History Dr Qasim Abdo Kassem has written an article on the concept of 'Oral history - Amidst Folklore and Historical Sources'.

In the 'Opinion' section of the magazine, Professor Dr Nizar Chakroun, Dean, Higher Institute of Arts and Crafts, in Sfax, Tunisia, asks questions in an article titled 'Supremacy of Oral Speech'.

He takes further the discourse started by Walter Ong in his book Orality and Literacy: The Technologizing of the Word published in 1982.

The American author attempted to identify distinguishing characteristics of orality by examining thought and its verbal expression in societies where technologies of literacy (especially writing and print) are unfamiliar to most of the population.

The magazine also includes studies. King Saud University Professor of Sociology Dr Saad Al Abdullah Alsoyan has written a study on 'Overlapping of History and Myths in Oral Narrative'.

It focuses on the issue of fantasy and legends interpolating historical facts and real events, mainly in non-clerical communities.
