Qatar- QC zakat project benefits 37,500 families in Syria


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) distributed Zakat Al Fitr across Syria, including besieged areas such as Damascus' countryside Ghouta and at camps where displaced people are living.

Around 37,500 families benefited.

The project covered 7,000 families in Idlib and its countryside such as Jericho, Saraqib, Maarat Al Nu'man, and Binnish.

It also covered 3,000 families in Hama and Al Ghab Plain's countryside, 7,000 families in Aleppo and its suburbs, 7,000 families in Damascus countryside, including besieged areas such as Ghouta, Duma, Al Zabadani, Muadamiyat Al Sham and Harasta, 2,700 families in Quneitra, 2,700 families in Homs' countryside in Talbiseh, Al Rastan, Houla, and Al Waer and 2,000 families in the camps for the displaced and other areas.

QC prioritised countries and territories suffering wars, disasters and siege. These places benefited from QC's Ramadan projects as part of its 'Ramadan Al Basma' campaign.

QC also focused on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in Palestine. Over 500 families in Gaza, sponsored by QC, benefited, along with 274 needy families in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The mothers of orphans in the Strip praised QC's Ramadan and Zakat Al Fitr projects and said these came at the right time when it was mostly needed.

I'timad Al Ghandour, a beneficiary, said, "The project came when it was mostly needed. I have a family of eight. At the end of last year's Ramadan, I could not afford to provide them with basic needs."

Similarly, 1,541 poor families in Niamey, and Tahoua in Niger thanked QC for implementing Ramadan projects.

In the last days of Ramadan, QC announced a plan to distribute Zakat Al Fitr to the most needy categories in 14 countries at a cost of over QR1.67m.

The project focuses on places with special circumstances and displaced persons in Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Albania, Jordan, Bosnia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Niger, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, Kosovo, and Lebanon.

QC also implemented its annual Kisswet Eid (Eid Clothing) project and distributed clothes and presents at a cost of QR5.7m to 54,000 children and women.
