9 tons of spoiled food products seized in Riyadh


(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: Field inspectors from the Saudi Food and Drugs Authority (SFDA) have seized over nine tons of spoiled tahina and 23000 kg of glucose stored in unhealthy conditions in Riyadh in addition to 21000 packs of expired concentrate juices in Qatif Eastern Province the SFDA announced on its website.
According to the announcement in one of factories located in the second industrial city of Riyadh authorities found 9100 kg of liquid tahina incompatible with the required health standards and which had also been altered through the addition of vegetable oil to its ingredients.
The inspectors seized 100 bottles of vegetable oil and eighty containers of glucose which were being stored under direct sun heat.
In Jeddah meanwhile municipality inspectors announced that they have uncovered 190 tons of rotten or expired food items being stored in poor conditions. The items in Jeddah brought the amount of seized rotten food to 571 tons during the holy month of Ramadan.
The municipality authorities are implementing campaigns against stores aimed to protect consumers from dangers posed by expired food items a reliable source told local media.
