Qatar Rail gets ISO certification

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) was recently awarded ISO certification OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety management systems.

This follows management systems audits of the Qatar Rail QSHESE department by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).

OHSAS 18001 is Qatar Rail's second accolade from ISO in less than two months. In May, the company received the ISO 9001:2008 certification for quality management, which specifies requirements for a quality management system where an organisation needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide a product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

The certificate handover ceremony at Qatar Rail's headquarters in Doha was attended by Hamad al-Bishri, deputy CEO, and Dr Fahad al-Jaber, QSHESE director. Brian Baxter, area field service manager at LRQA, presented the award and congratulated the team on the achievement.

Commenting on the certification, al-Bishri said: "This is a key milestone for our company as it indicates not only Qatar Rail's commitment towards health and safety governance and assurance management, but more importantly a framework for continuous improvement and excellence in delivery. I thank the Qatar Rail team and LRQA for their efforts in making this possible."

OHSAS 18001 is an internationally applied standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It is intended to help organisations control occupational health and safety risks and has been developed in response to widespread demand for a recognised standard against which to be certified and assessed.

It sets a framework to identify and control health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, aid legal compliance and improve overall performance.

LRQA is a leading, independent provider of business assurance services, including management system certification, validation, verification and a full range of training to international standards and schemes.
