Arab, S. American countries preparing Riyadh Declaration project

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Senior officials from Arab and South American foreign ministries prepared, during a meeting Tuesday, the Riyadh draft Declaration due to be released in the 4th Arab-South America summit scheduled in Riyadh next November.

Prospects of the draft will tackle the political, economic, commercial, social, and cultural cooperation between the two sides.

The officials agreed, at the conclusion of their meeting in the Arab League, to hold another meeting, prior to a meeting at the foreign ministers level on sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next September.

Arab League Secretary General Assistant for International Political Affairs Ambassador Fadhel Jawad told reporters that preparatory meetings are scheduled to conclude by senior officials in Riyadh ahead of the summit, to be held under the auspices of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Ambassador Jawad noted activities and joint cooperation between the two sides would also include areas of development in economy, transportation, communications, legal affairs, women, health, and education.

Jawad also praised the role of Latin American countries in supporting Arab issues, namely the Palestinian cause in international arenas, including their vote in favor of the recognition of an independent Palestinian state.

For his part, Arab League Director of the Americas Department Ibrahim Muhyiddeen said the meeting highlighted political cohesion on various political issues of common concern, particularly the Palestinian issue, as well as the situation in Libya, Yemen, Syria and disarmament of weapons of mass destruction.

Kuwait was represented by Abdulrahman Al-Baker, Charge d'Affaires at the Permanent mission to the Arab League.
