Omani among 25 selected for Global Himalayan Expedition


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Omani entrepreneur Kareem Rashid al Hudaifi is among the 25 people who have been selected for the Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) this year.

Hudaifi said he is delighted to have been selected for the expedition that combines community development with adventure tourism. Speaking to Muscat Daily Hudaifi a graduate in Information Systems from the Higher College of Technology said 'I am happy to be the first Omani to take part in this expedition. I always wanted to go to the Himalayas. It is the best place for camping and adventure sports.'

The expedition also aims to train young people in volunteerism he said adding 'It was only recently I learnt how the expedition is helping local communities harness sustainable energy and promote education-based infrastructure in remote mountain regions.'

The young enthusiast said that to prepare for the journey he has joined a gym in Al Khoudh where he trains for three hours every day.

'People who want to know more about my expedition can follow me on Instagram and Twitter at '#Omani_on_top'' he said. The expedition from August 9-21 focuses on reaching out to remote villages in Ladakh and help build education-based infrastructure.

Last year GHE helped in the electrification of the Sumda Chenmo village located at 14000ft in Ladakh's Zanskar valley. The 1000 year old village which had never seen electricity saw setting up of three DC solar micro-grids by a team of 24 individuals from ten countries.
