GEM staff raise QR40,000 for QRC projects in Nepal


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has received QR40,000 donation from Gulf Earth Moving (GEM) to support the charity's relief efforts for Nepal earthquake victims.

Staff of GEM, a multinational company that serves large-scale earthmoving, reclamation, shore protection and soil improvement projects in Qatar, raised the money. The fund was given to the company's management, which chose QRC.

Ian Shaw, Business Development Manager, GEM, said: "With over 100 employees from Nepal, we felt directly impacted by the earthquake.

"We are pleased to support QRC with this donation to enable it to carry out work on the ground in Nepal.

"We have also supported our workforce by sending home those needed to be there and helping the families of our employees directly affected by the tragedy."

Saad bin Shaheen Al Kaabi, Director, Resource Mobilisation Department, QRC, said, "I was happy to be among the workers to receive the donation, which reflects their compassion towards the victims.

"This matches QRC's humanitarian mission and principles, which always inspire us to help the vulnerable and serve distressed and underprivileged communities everywhere."

Al Kaabi thanked the company and staff, urging all individuals, corporations and institutions in Qatar to extend more help as part of QRC's emergency appeal to raise QR12m to offer urgent assistance to the affected population in healthcare, shelter, water and sanitation, and restore family links.
