Qatar - Anniversary celebrations of drugs and alcohol panel end


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Under the auspices of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs (PCDAA) held the closing ceremony of its 10th anniversary celebration on Tuesday.

Staff Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, director-general of Public Security, attended the programme along with department directors, Permanent Committee members and other personalities working in the field of drugs and

alcohol prevention.

Essa Khalifa al-Kuwari, a member of PCDAA, welcomed the gathering.

He stressed the importance of the event as it marks the completion of 10 years by the committee as well as the fifth anniversary of the National Drug Control Strategy of Qatar (2010-15).

He referred to the co-operation and assistance of civil authorities and establishments that worked with the committee to raise awareness and reduce the risks of drugs in the society.

He added that as they were towards the end of the current five-year strategic plan, the committee was working on the preparation of the next plan for 2016-20.

He said Doha would host the International Anti-Drugs Forum next week with the participation of 22 countries, six international associations and prominent dignitaries, who would hold discussions on the detection of smuggling methods, routes and itinerary.

Staff Brig (Navy) Ali Ahmad al-Budaid, director-general, General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, and Ahmad Ali al-Mohannadi, head of General Authority of Customs, also spoke at the event.
