Conference on Yemeni dialogue kicks off in Riyadh

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The conference on conciliation for Yemen kicked off in Riyadh on Sunday with the presence of all Yemeni parties except for the Houthis.

The conference aims to apply the rules of the GCC and UN Yemen initiative, said chairman of the conference's consultative committee Abdulaziz Al-Jabari in his speech at the event.

Al-Jabari called for applying Resolution 2216 of the UN's Security Council in order to end the current conflict in Yemen, adding that waiting for new negotiations will only worsen the situation in the country.

Meanwhile, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulatif Al-Zayani said the recently-launched "Decisive Storm" military operation executed by GCC, Arab and Muslim forces against Houthi militias succeeded in preventing the group from marching towards and threatening the stability of several Yemeni cities.

Deputy Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmad bin Hilli, on his part, noted that the League will support Yemen's decisions, calling on Houthis to respect the Saudi five-day ceasefire initiative and allow rescue teams to aid those in need.

Moreover, British Ambassador to Yemen Edmund Fitton expressed support of the G14 Ambassadors for the current conference, praising the Saudi truce initiative.
