Saudi King underlines importance of GCC leaders' meeting


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has underscored the significance of the 15th Consultative Meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders to be held here tomorrow.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following today's cabinet meeting chaired under his chairmanship, the King expressed his hope that the GCC leaders would meet further aspirations of the Gulf people and support the Gulf joint march.

The statement commended the results of the preparatory meeting of the GCC's Foreign Ministers for their leaders' meeting.

It also lauded the results of the consultative meeting of the GCC Ministers of Interiors during which they approved the working mechanism of the GCC's committee on a unified terrorist list to enhance the GCC's joint security action in the field of counter-terrorism and emphasize the firm stance of the GCC's countries on renouncing terrorism and extremism and the need to intensify security efforts to combat this deviant thought and dry its sources of funding.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet welcomed the appointment of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania a new envoy of the UN Secretary General to Yemen, wishing him success in his mission and endeavors.

The cabinet expressed its appreciation and gratitude to King Salman for his support for the Yemeni people in these circumstances the country is witnessing.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had announced on April 25 that Ould Cheikh Ahmad was appointed his new envoy for Yemen, referring that he would do his duty by working closely with the UN Security Council members, GCC and the governments in the region.
