QTA unveils Summer Festival at Arabian Travel Market

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) unveiled its plans for the 2015 Qatar Summer Festival at the 22nd edition of the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai.

The 2015 Qatar Summer Festival is expected to drive up regional tourism numbers with a range of new attractions, cultural events and brand promotions lined up for this year.

Announcing the festival at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) presented its plans for Entertainment City, an expected highlight of the festival with fun and innovative activities for children at the Doha Exhibition Centre. The Entertainment City will feature skate boarding and rock climbing spaces, in addition to other crafts, games and stage shows.

According to QTA Chief Marketing & Promotions Officer Rashed al-Qurese tourists from the GCC accounted for 1.12mn visitors last year, some 40% of Qatar's worldwide total. Numbers are up in the first quarter of 2015 by an encouraging 16% to more than 360,000, boding well for the summer.

"The response to our first Qatar Summer Festival last year was extremely positive. It not only attracted large numbers of residents but also substantial visitor traffic from the GCC and elsewhere throughout the region," he said.

"The 2015 Festival, which takes place throughout the month of August, will build on this success in terms of its size and the variety and scope of the family entertainment and fun activities on offer in Doha and nationwide," he added.

The month-long festival will also feature a full programme of shows to suit various ages and tastes; from open-air public displays, theatre and classical concerts to comedy, film and popular Eastern music and Western music performances. Details of individual shows will be publicised in the lead up to the festival opening date.

In addition, Qatar's hospitality and retail sectors will be actively engaged in ensuring the success of the month-long festivities. Special Hotel Offers will be available from many of the country's top hotels to provide visitors with a range of special accommodation deals. These can be paired with highly competitive airfares on Qatar Airways' regional routes to ensure Doha ranks as the preferred summer destination for family travellers from throughout the Gulf area.

The Qatar Shopping Festival will offer bargain prices on top brands in fashion, accessories, watches and jewellery, electronics and much more at participating outlets throughout the country.
