(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The International Islamic Relief Organisation of the Muslim World League, IIRO, is currently working to provide aid and help to underprivileged people in 28 African countries benefiting about 50 million people.
The Secretary-General of the Organisation, Ihsan bin Saleh Tayeb, was quoted by the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, at a press conference at the body's headquarters in Jeddah today in the presence of the consuls of African countries in Jeddah, saying that the Organisation has contributed through health, social and educational services, and over the past year has spent about 16 million Riyals, in order to save large numbers of children in Africa.
IIRO is currently sponsoring 32,081 orphans in 14 African countries, in addition to the establishment of six orphanages in Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Sudan and Somalia, as well as 7 social centres in Sudan including 1,110 orphans.
Ihsan Tayeb added that the Organisation also provided grants and grants study in many scientific disciplines for 250 students in 10 countries, along with sponsoring 20 as teachers and coordinators in 7 countries with the support and facilitation of 9 educational institutions in various stages of education, indicating that 16 countries have benefited from health services.
The Secretary-General also said that the had body dug 22 artesian wells and shallow wells, benefiting 1.122 million people, and two dams currently benefiting 15,000 people in Somalia, and has built 1,212 mosques in various African countries, and implemented seasonal programmes in 22 countries over the past year.
The Consul-General of the Republic of Mauritania and the Dean of the African Group of Consuls accredited to the Kingdom in Jeddah, Addo Ould Bapanh, expressed his happiness on behalf of the consuls of African countries and extended his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Organisation and multiple achievements in most countries of the continent, describing the body as keys for the good and their employees as pioneers in relief work.
