Pakistan desires early political solution to Yemen crisis - Foreign Office

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pakistan has said that it desires an early political solution to Yemen crisis, urging the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take proactive measures to resolve the situation there, according to the Foreign Office.

"Islamabad is in contact with different Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, for early solution to the crisis. The visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia is part of efforts to achieve the objective," spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said in a media briefing on Thursday.

She added that Pakistan is encouraged by the Saudi Arabian decision to end air strikes in Yemen, hoping "this move will lead to stability and commencement of political process." Aslam expressed confidence that the efforts being made for a peaceful solution in Yemen will succeed, saying Saudi Arabia is "a close friend and a true brother, which has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times." "Regular engagements with them on Yemen situation are an effort to try to understand their perspective on the issue," she said.

The statement comes as Pakistani Premier is on a daylong visit to Saudi Arabia along with Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.
