Qatar- QC food project helps 16,000 families in Gaza

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed food parcels to 16,000 families in the Gaza Strip, affected by the recent Israeli aggression, at a cost of QR3.334m.

The project complements relief interventions QC carried out during and after the last phase of the Israeli aggression last summer, and aims to support poor and needy families, in cooperation with over 60 local partner institutions. Food parcels come at a time of intensification of the blockade on Gaza, as the population is suffering difficult economic and social conditions, particularly those whose homes were bombed and are without shelter. The majority of the targeted families are poor and unable to purchase basic needs.

Mohammed Abu Halloub, Director, QC office, Gaza, said a new system of shopping vouchers has been introduced to preserve beneficiaries' dignity and families were free to use vouchers based on their priorities and tastes.

He said the office contracted shops in provinces to create gift vouchers worth QR200 per family, which allow them to visit stores and purchase food and other household items independently.

"The project benefited 16,000 households or about 112,000 people and brought joy to streets and alleys of the besieged Gaza," Halloub said, adding it received praise at official and popular levels.

The QC office has also begun a project for the provision of drugs, medical consumables and laboratory equipment for hospitals in Gaza at a cost of QR7.534m.

It has also launched 'We Build Palestine' to contribute to the development of the Palestinian people in and outside Palestine under the theme 'Hand in Hand to Build Palestine'.

The campaign covers financing and implementation of large development projects and is worth QR197.628m to benefit an estimated 1,147,000 people.

QC projects in Palestine include shelter, education, health and economic empowerment and cover Palestinians in Jerusalem and its suburbs, Gaza, the West Bank and Palestinians in refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan. The campaign is in response to conditions experienced by Palestinians in general and particularly those in Gaza, in light of the devastation inflicted on them by Israeli aggression which left over 2,000 dead and 11,200 injured and displaced thousands of families after the destruction of their homes.
