(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, warned of the serious developments in Yemen, saying that Houthis' opting for the military option and turning down international and regional endeavors, aimed at a comprehensive national dialogue to find a peaceful way out of the exacerbating crisis, put the country on the brink of civil war that would have devastating consequences for Yemen and the entire region.
Madani reiterated his appeal to all Yemeni parties to exercise common sense and place the interests of Yemen above all political, tribal and sectarian considerations, stressing that Houthis' attempts to use the war on terror to undermine the internationally recognized constitutional legitimacy represented by the President of the Republic, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, is unacceptable and would only aggravate chaos and deepen the crisis in its political, security and humanitarian dimensions.
The Secretary General called upon all parties in Yemen, in particular the Houthis, to abide by the UN Security Council resolutions, the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative and its Implementation Mechanism, to accept the Council's invitation to hold a conference in Riyadh to supplement and support the United Nations-brokered negotiations, and to abide by the outcomes of the comprehensive National Dialogue, the Peace and National Partnership Agreement and its security annex, as this is the only way to meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people for a peaceful transition of power, realization of security, stability, development and social peace.
