(MENAFN) Middle Eastern carriers posted 9.2 percent growth in air freight demand, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said, Arabian Business reported.
Leading airliners, in the region, aim at increasing capacity up to 18.1 percent in order to satisfy demand on international routes and serve inward trade to Middle Eastern economies, according to IATA.
On the global side, IATA said that air freight markets showed a 3.2 percent expansion in freight ton kilometers' (FTKs) in January compared to the same month last year. Growth was slower than the 4.5 percent logged in 2014.
"January was a disappointing start to the year for air cargo. And it is difficult to be too optimistic about the rest of the year given the economic headwinds in Europe and growing concerns over the Chinese economy," IATA's director general and CEO said in a statement.
