Dubai International passenger traffic grows 7.7 percent in January

(MENAFN) Dubai International began new year on high note as the airport handled record 6.9 million passengers in January, indicating an increase of 7.7 percent due to holiday traffic and the annual Dubai Shopping Festival, Khaleej Times reported.

Dubai Airports said Eastern European routes saw the fastest expansion of traffic followed by North America, the Indian Subcontinent and Asia. Russia and the CIS recorded fewer visitors with traffic, down 22.7 percent.

The airport registered 34,643 aircraft movements in January 2015, up 6.2 percent compared to the 32,625 movements recorded in January 2014.

"Considering that Dubai International is projected to welcome over 79 million passengers in 2015, there is no better way to begin a year than with a record month," said chief executive of Dubai Airports.
