Sharif orders judicial inquiry into killing of Muttahidas worker


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Sharif also issued directives for the setting up of a judicial commission within a week to probe the killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Sohail Ahmed.

Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the ongoing operation against criminals and terrorists in Karachi would be pursued more vigorously to restore peace and order.



Sharif also issued directives for the setting up of a judicial commission within a week to probe the killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Sohail Ahmed.



Talking to reporters he said the two major parties — the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the MQM — should cooperate to cleanse the city of target killers kidnappers and terrorists. Being country’s biggest city and financial hub the stability and peace in Karachi was vital for economic and political stability of the country.



The prime minister said he had taken notice of the murder of MQM workers and the IGP Sindh had informed him that a probe into the killing of three MQM workers would be completed in 30 days.



Earlier soon after arrival the prime minister held a meeting with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah DG Rangers IGP Sindh and other top officials. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and senior members of provincial cabinet attended the meeting.



The prime minister directed the authorities to thoroughly investigate the killing of three workers of MQM and bring the culprits to justice.



“It needs to be looked into who’s responsible for the killing of missing persons in Karachi” Nawaz said during the meeting.



“Justice must be served ... without justice no society can survive and whoever is responsible for these killings must to be brought to justice” he added.



He said that his visit to Karachi was aimed at discussing ways and means to restore peace in the city and expressed satisfaction that the Karachi operation was showing good results.



He said that both the governor and chief minister should maintain harmony between their two respective parties and that all issues should be resolved at the provincial level. He went on to say that all provincial matters should be discussed and resolved through dialogue.



Sharif said that his government wanted to see exemplary peace in Karachi. “We want Pakistan People’s Party and MQM to work together” he said.



The prime minister also met the families of the slain MQM workers Sohail Ahmed Faraz Alam and Rehan at the Governor’s House and expressed deep grief over their death.



Speaking to reporters after the meeting the party representatives said that Sharif had assured that MQM will get speedy justice with regard to the killings of its workers.



MQM leader Qamar Manzoor blamed police for the current situation and demanded that a judicial commission should look into abuses by officials.
