UN Calls for More Funding to Humanitarian Efforts in Iraq

(MENAFN- QNA) United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos said Monday that the international community must allocate more finances to help Iraqis affected by the crisis in the country.

Amos, who is currently visiting Baghdad, said that the United Nations agencies are running out of funds to help the 1.8 million Iraqis who were displaced by the violence.

She warned that winter is approaching and more people will need aid by then. She stressed that the international community must work hand in hand with the Iraqi government to deal with the threat of ISIS, as well as the humanitarian crisis resulting from that threat.
