Palestine auth., UN distribute food to Yarmouk camp's inhabitants

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Director of the public authority for Palestinian refugees in Syria, Ali Mustafa, said Saturday food baskets have been delivered to inhabitants of the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus.

The authority and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) distributed 1,155 food basket and 1,500 bags of bread, milk and jam on refugees in the camp, Mustafa said in a statement, cited by Syrian official SANA news agency.

He added that 30 sick people were taken to hospitals in Damascus, raising to 4,386 the number of Palestinian patients who were brought out of the camp for treatment since January this year.

Mustafa said 31,011 food baskets and 3,776 medical aid baskets were distributed on the Syrian and Palestinian inhabitants of the camp since the beginning of 2014.

People living in Yarmouk camp are awaiting the success of an initiative to clear the camp from weapons and armed men in order to end their ordeal that lasted for more than 18 months. The initiative is co-sponsored by the Syrian regime, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and 14 Palestinian factions.

Meanwhile, Fighting between the Syrian opposition gunmen and the Syrian regime forces continued in different parts of the country.

Every side is attempting to gain control of more ground. The Lebanese Hezbollah party is reportedly sending reinforcements to support the regime troops in the Qalamon area in the outskirts of Damascus.
