Three Filipino senators charged for graft

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Filipino senators Jose 'Jinggoy' Estrada, Ramon Revilla Junior and Juan Ponce Enrile embrace each other inside the Senate building in Pasay City, south of Manila, yesterday. The Philippines' ombudsman, or public advocate, filed large-scale corruption charges against the senators who allegedly received millions of dollars in kickbacks from a scam that misused a Congressional fund. The charges of plunder, which is non-bailable and carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, were filed before the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court. The senators and their top aides received more than $13m in kickbacks from alleged mastermind businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles between 2004 and 2010.
