Seoul Will Keep Working in the Reconstruction of Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Oul may 09 (qna) - south korea will continue to keep its reconstruction and aid workers in afghanistan even after their mission in the war-torn country ends next month yonhap news agency quoted a foreign ministry official as saying on friday.

south korea's provincial reconstruction team (prt) has been stationed in afghanistan since 2010 to help rebuild the war-torn nation by building and operating a hospital a police training center and other aid facilities in the northern province of parwan.

the facilities were handed over to the parwan government in 2012 and the aid workers have since moved into the u.s. military base in bagram where they operate a hospital and vocational training center.

their prt mission is scheduled to expire in june but south korea plans to maintain the hospital and the training center in bagram for assistance purposes the official said.

to that mean the government will turn the prt facilities into a form of south korea's official development aid (oda) while continuing to keep about 40 south korean officials and aid workers there. (qna)
