Discussion on the importance of smart families takes place at the Sharjah Childrens Reading Festival

(MENAFNEditorial) Supported by the Arab Yaqadha Library, a stimulating dialogue session titled 'Why We Need to Have Smart Families' took place at the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival in the Book Forum, and talked about the importance of comprehensive cultural training. The discussion was led by Zakaria Ahmad Eid, who serves as the educational, cultural advisor and media consultant to the library. Cultivation plays an important part in a child's development. We live in a 'smart' world: smart phones, smart cars, and smart government to name a few, but Ahmad emphasized that this way of thinking doesn't translate into intelligent. Smart, as Ahmad pointed out constitutes as being materialistic and what is missing for many of today's families is culture. The human mind has a way of thinking about the future and the lives around it as well. The discussion spoke about the types of thinking and provided a possible framework for determining how culture can be developed, Ahmad also sought to reinforce the types of thinking that could ultimately benefit the entire UAE region. He posed a question about why the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the richest award for children's literature, and the second richest award in the world overall, was not known in the UAE. He emphasized that it is important for the region to place itself on an international scale, considering that the Sharjah International Book Fair is the fourth largest in the world, and the emirate of Sharjah is the Islamic Culture Capital of the entire Arab region. Ahmad presented a possible solution which was implementing a comprehensive training course that will teach children and families about fine arts, literature and plays. He pointed out that this was key to an intelligent versus smart family that will ultimately make for a bright future for children. Attendees were given a book titled 'The role of socialization in the formation of appropriate behavior for children" written by Salem Al-Qassimi, Assistant Professor at the College of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University of Sharjah and Principal & Founder of the Sharjah based Fikra Design Studio.
