Microsoft inks strategic partnerships with ITA and OmanTel for "Imagine Cup 2014" Oman


(MENAFNEditorial) In partnership with Information technology Authority and OmanTel, Microsoft announced the launch of its Imagine Cup 2014 Competition in Oman for the third consecutive year. The strategic partnership agreements were signed at the ITA stand at COMEX 2014. Microsoft and its partners extend an invitation to all students between the age of 16 and 23 to partake in the world's premier student technology competition. Five teams will be shortlisted, this week, to compete in the Oman final competition; the national champion will have the chance to advance to the Pan Arab round for a chance to compete and win a ticket to the global finals in Seattle, USA. Supported by its strategic partners, Microsoft organized a set of roadshows to various universities across the Sultanate and gave students the chance to discover Imagine Cup and learn how they can participate in the world's premier student technology competition. Representing Microsoft at the signing ceremony, Sheikh Saif Hilal Al Hosni, Business Development Manager for Microsoft Oman reiterated Microsoft's commitment to help building a stronger and brighter future for Oman by empowering the youth and providing them the 21st Century skills and knowledge. He said "Imagine Cup is not just a competition, it is a platform for youngsters - students and fresh graduates – to take a peek at the corporate world; it basically aims to help students discover their potentials, develop their skills, earn knowledge and expertise and enhance their capabilities through the spirit of competition." Sheikh Saif thanked the partners for their trust and continued support, he said "We are very excited to have ITA and Omantel as strategic partners for the third consecutive year; we appreciate their trust and support and applaud their great efforts in empowering the future of Oman". Commenting on the signing agreement, ITA's CEO Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi said "We at ITA are committed to supporting young entrepreneurs and enable them to turn their innovative ideas and initiatives into profitable business which eventually helps grow and develop the national economy." Dr. Al Ruzaiqi applauded Microsoft's and Omantel efforts in hosting another round of the Imagine Cup Competition in Oman and acknowledged their continued support to the Omani youth and society throughout the years. Omantel is also the Mobility Award sponsor; this competition encourages students to develop Windows Phone App and Windows 8 App under the Competition's official themes of Citizenship and innovation using mobility technology tools including Mobile communications, GPS, SMS, data plans and others. "We are pleased to participate in the Imagine Cup Competition for the third consecutive year. This contest is in line with one of Omantel's main national strategies of supporting all the initiatives working on providing better opportunities and paving the way for our youngsters in the Sultanate.". Students partaking in the Imagine Cup 2014 may compete in any of the following competition's categories: • World Citizenship. Honors the software application developed on Microsoft platforms with the greatest potential to make a positive impact on humanity. • Innovation. Honors apps that give consumers inspiration and innovation at their fingertips with Microsoft tools and technology.
