EMAL strikes gold again with the second consecutive global Occupational Health and Safety Award

(MENAFNEditorial) Emirates Aluminium ("EMAL") has continued its impressive Health and Safety record sustained throughout the operation of Phase I and has been recognised by receiving the prestigious 2014 Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety from the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents ("RoSPA"). This is the second consecutive year that EMAL has won the RoSPA Gold award, reaffirming the Operations' leading position in occupational health and safety across diverse industrial sectors

EMAL's achievement is a reflection of the emphasis placed on Safety within the Corporate Values of Emirates Global Aluminium ("EGA") – the jointly-owned, UAE-based aluminium conglomerate formed by Mubadala Development Corporation and Investment Corporation of Dubai through the combination of their respective aluminium industry interests (making EMAL and Dubai Aluminium ("DUBAL") operating subsidiaries). EGA is committed to maintaining the strong Safety Culture established at EMAL and DUBAL over the years. The on-going quest for a Zero Harm workplace has already seen a commendable reduction in the Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate across both operations to 3.47 per million work-hours in 2013

Evidently delighted at the news, Abdulla Kalban (EGA's MD & CEO) said: "EMAL's sustained achievement in the RoSPA Awards testifies to the exceptional work being done at the Al Taweelah site in Occupational Health and Safety. Indeed, winning the 2014 RoSPA Gold Award underscores the important role played by the EMAL leadership and all employees in maintaining benchmark performances in these areas, thus upholding our company's core values.

RoSPA is an esteemed, internationally-recognised organisation based in the United Kingdom, of which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the patron. Thousands of organisations from across the world apply for the highly valued RoSPA awards each year and all submissions are subject to very diligent scrutiny. Kalban added: "On behalf of the EGA Board and Executive Management, I congratulate everyone at EMAL on winning this award. It is another symbol of the excellence to which EGA aspires, and sets the standard for even better Occupational Health and Safety performance in the future."
