A Chinese Top Legislator Meets Israeli President Shimon Peres


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) ijing April 10 - Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang on Wednesday met with Israeli President Shimon Peres on stronger bilateral ties. Zhang chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) hailed Peres' contribution to promoting China-Israel relations. Zhang reviewed the steady and sound development of China-Israel relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1992. Zhang called on the two countries to carry forward tradition and work more closely to bring bilateral friendship to a new high. Zhang said China adheres to peaceful development and urges to settle disputes by peaceful means wishing a peaceful Middle East where people can enjoy happiness and good health. The NPC would like to work more closely with the Israeli parliament to implement the consensus by leaders of the two countries and contribute to stronger China-Israel relations Zhang said. Peres who is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Thursday lauded China's peaceful development as the greatest achievement in human history and said Israel expects to learn from China's success story and promote bilateral relations. Peres said Israel will make efforts to boost peace talks with Palestine. On Tuesday Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Peres calling for tangible progress in Israel-Palestine peace talks at an early date. Israeli President Shimon Peres arrived here earlier Tuesday on a three-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei announced on Thursday
