Two Omani teams to take part in Asian Tour events

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As part of the Oman Volleyball Association's (OVA) plans to give international exposure to the national beach spikers, two Omani teams will compete in the Asian Volleyball Confederation's (AVC) events in Thailand.

The two Omani pairs - Abdullah al Rajhi-Hassan al Balushi and Haitham Shreiqi- Ahmed al Hosni - will compete in two back-to-back AVC Beach Tour competitions. The first event will see 33 men's teams from 17 countries compete in the fifth Khanom- Chang Asian Tour Beach Volleyball Tour, which began on Wednesday and will conclude on Friday.

It is being held at Nadan Beach, Khanom in Nakhon Si Thammarat, a province 780km south of Bangkok. The event will be followed by the 15th Samila-Chang Asian Beach Volleyball Tour at Samila Beach, Songkhla from April 14-16. The winning team from each competition will earn $US3,000 as prize money.

The players have also been invited to join the around-thecity march at the Songkran Festival on April 13. The festival marks Thailand's New Year.

Besides Oman, the participating nations for both the events comprise hosts Thailand (three teams), Japan (2), China (2), Indonesia (2), Sri Lanka (2), New Zealand (2), Hong Kong (2), Kazakhstan (2), Vietnam (2), Qatar (2), Iran (2), Singapore (1), India (2), Brunei (2), Philippines (1) and Malaysia (2).

Khalifa al Jabri, national team coach, said the sultanate's beach spikers are ready for the competition following a welcome break.

''The tournaments will give all four players good exposure ahead of their campaign in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea in September,'' he said. Jabri said Rajhi was picked to pair up with Balushi as the latter's regular partner, Badr al Subhi, is out injured.
