Nuclear power in China to increase to 40m kw by 2015


(MENAFN) Nuclear power plants in China will have their total capacity increased to 40 million kw by 2015, Xinhua reported



An academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering said: "Coal power has high transportation costs and puts huge pressure on the environment, but nuclear power doesn't emit pollutants such as carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide.



He said that if China would have a nuclear power capacity of 60 million kw in 2020, that will reduce the emission of carbon dioxide by 6.8 percent or 574 million tons



The country operates 17 nuclear power units now with a total installed capacity of 14 million kw
