Oman bodybuilding meet from March 30

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The 11th Oman Bodybuilding Championship will be held at the Qurm Amphitheatre on March 30-31, its organiser, Oman Bodybuilding Committee (OBC), announced at a press meet on Wednesday.

The weighing ceremony will be conducted on March 29 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC). Nearly 80 athletes are expected to take part in various categories.

There are eight weight categories for this year's edition - 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg and 90+kg.

Salim al Bahri, chairman of the OBC, said, ''Earlier we used to have separate categories beyond the 90kg category, but very few participants in them. This year, we have clubbed all weight categories beyond 90kg together so that there is good competition among the bodybuilders.''

Meanwhile, the OBC said it won't conduct dope tests before and during the championship. The committee, however, said that the competitors are subjected to mandatory dope tests before taking part in international events. Priority is also being given to include the maximum number of judges for the event from the Gulf region.

Said al Rahbi, a representative of the Ministry of Sports Affairs, was present at the press meet.

Adil El Sayed, president of the Arab & African Bodybuilding Federation, will be the chief guest at the event.
