S. Korean Consortium Wins Order to Build Oil Refinery in Iraq


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) A group of South Korean companies has won a multi-billion dollar order to build an oil refinery in Iraq. Hyundai Engineering and Construction announced the successful bid on Wednesday. It along with GS E and C, SK E and C and Hyundai Engineering Company secured the 6.04 billion dollar order, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website. The order was placed by the State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) under Iraq's oil ministry. This is the largest industrial plant building project ever won by South Korean firms. The consortium will build the oil refinery in Karbala, about 120 kilometers south of Baghdad. The plant will be able to refine 140-thousand barrels of crude oil daily. The project is expected to take around 54 months. The four firms will also be responsible to operate and maintain the refinery for a year after construction is complet
