OUTWARD BOUND OMAN EXPEDITION A fitting finale to the challenge

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Light was barely breaking over camp the morning, but the HSBC team was up early, preparing to reach the top of the enormous dune that had towered over our camp for the past 24 hours, the third highest dune in Oman.

Ascending up the spine of one of the ridges that led to the top of the dune, the summit was a fitting end to our journey.

Throughout the weeks that we had been travelling though the Rub al Khali, we were in awe of Oman's beauty, and now with a 360° panoramic view, that beauty was more obvious than ever before.

Teams from Oman Methanol/Shinas College of Technology, Vale Oman and this HSBC Bank Oman team did supremely well, completing a distance of over 300km from our starting point in the Mugshin oasis.

From wooded wadis to open gypsum plains, and onwards to the great dunes of Rub al Khali, there has been a lot to take in over the last month.

For each team, it had been through hardship and overcame many challenges in order to get here. Dealing with uncertainty and ever changing timelines put people in a unique situation that is hard to replicate on standard training courses.

This experience, and how they dealt with at times being out of their comfort zones will hopefully stay with them for the rest of their lives, stories that they deservedly should be proud to tell.

Completing a journey like this will not change the place that we pass through, but the place is guaranteed to have a lasting impact on us.

The final night in the desert and everyone was soaking in as much of this place while they still could. At first light we exited the desert, driving across the fabled quick-sands of Umm Samim to head back towards Muscat, and home.
