(MENAFN Press) His Excellency Ahmed Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of Emirates Institution for Advanced Sciences and Technology (EIAST), stressed during the 55th session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, the UAE's commitment to contribute to the services of humanity by all means,particularly in space and technical resources.
Al Mansoori mentioned that the UAE plays an active role in supporting disaster management through space systems using UNSPIDER programme which provides high quality images of disaster-stricken states.
His Excellency briefed the attendees on the space development taking place in the UAE, stating that the initiatives and projects launched in this context are in line with its vision to transfer and exchange knowledge according tobest practices.
As part of this modern vision of UAE, EIAST considers the establishment of a specialized center for research and development withinthe UAE to enhance space industries managed byUAE Nationals in order to boost the role of the country in exchanging knowledge and support innovation.
Al Mansoori emphasized that theUAErespects the international law related to space debris, and is equipped to use advanced technology to drill satellites out of orbit at the end of their life.
