(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) Three Egyptian men stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday on the charges of possessing tens of thousands of tramadol pills for trafficking.
The trio, including two decor technicians - S.I. and I.A., aged 31 and 32 years, respectively - and a 38-year-old salesman, H.A., allegedly possessed 78,197 Tramadol pills in total. While 30,000 pills were seized from S.I, 38,197 were found with I.A. and 10,000 with H.A. H.A. is also accused of using Tramadol.
A police officer said that he was assigned in January by the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics to arrest the defendants based on a tipoff that they possessed and used drugs.
The police learnt that the accused were in Al Barsha. With a prosecution arrest and search warrant, the police officers went to Al Barsha where the defendants were sitting in a car at a bus stop.
The police found a big quantity of Tramadol pills in the car which, I.A. claimed, belonged to him. I.A. said he was supposed to deliver the pills to S.I. who then would have given part of the quantity to H.A. to sell. They were planning split the money from the sale among themselves.
S.I. and I.A. admitted to the police that they had a big quantity of Tramadol pills hidden in their house in Sharjah. The trio was taken to the narcotics department for urine tests and other procedures.
A police corporal said that they were led by the defendants to their flat in Sharjah. Bags loaded with Tramadol pills were found hidden under the beds.
I.A. later led the police to where he had hidden a handbag full of the same pills on the rooftop of a Dubai hotel where he worked.
