(MENAFN - Arab Times) The Public Funds Protection Committee of National Assembly has summoned a few senior officials from Kuwait Oil Company and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation for investigation into the smuggling of diesel to Iran and Iraq, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to an informed source, the officials will be summoned on Monday along with certain officials from the Interior Ministry and Customs Department.
He said the committee will expect the officials to explain how they smuggled the diesel without the knowledge of security officials, while customs officers will be expected to elaborate on their role in verification of permits and other falsified documents.
He stressed that the committee has sufficient evidences, which will be compared with the submissions of the summoned officials, assuring that the committee will expose the corruption quicker than expected.
Meanwhile, National Assembly General Secretary Allam Al-Kanderi has threatened to take action against media photographers if the pictures they took of some employees collecting expired sweets from the lawmakers' desks are published, reports Al-Rai daily.
The concerned journalists expressed displeasure over this interference in the work of photographers, stressing that no rules were violated.
