(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) The State of Qatar has confirmed its commitment to integrating sustainable development plans in local development plans and in trade policies, and to supporting all international efforts towards green economies.

Qatar s position was spelled out in a speech delivered by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed Bin Seif Al Thani, Permanent Representative of Qatar at the United Nations in Geneva during a seminar held Wednesday under the title " Achievement of Sustainable Development in Trade and Development Policies .. Towards the Rio plus 20 " as part of the
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development UNCTAD XIII.

She said that the Rio plus 20 conference slated for Rio de Janeiro in June provides an important opportunity for all countries, both industrial and developing, to determine the frameworks of their national economies and the sustainability of their environmental and natural resources.

Qatar National Vision 2030 seeks to achieve sustained economic, social and environmental
development to guarantee honorable living for the coming generations, she said.

The State of Qatar has made strides over the past decades towards improving its economy and the standard of living of its citizens, she said, citing that Qatar jumped last year to rank 37 in the UN human development index of the UNDP among 187 countries.
