Jordan- Court of Appeals upholds Dahabi bail denial 

(MENAFN - Jordan Times) The Court of Appeals on Sunday supported the Amman Court of First Instance's decision to reject bail petitions submitted by the lawyers to release former General Intelligence Department (GID) chief Mohammed Dahabi.

After this decision, the defence team will go back to the Amman Court of First Instance to submit a new bail request, according to member of the team Mahmoud Keilani.

Dahabi is accused of money laundering, embezzlement and exploitation of public office during his 2005-2008 tenure as director of the GID.

His defence team submitted 11 bail petitions over the past two months, but the court rejected all of them due to the "special circumstances" of the case.

According to Keilani, no new developments in the case resulted after the Court of Appeal's decision.

He did not give further details, but noted that the defence team is convinced that legal regulations in such cases give their client the right to be freed on bail.

Dahabi's lawyers contested the refusal to release their client on bail at the Court of Appeals last week after their 11th petition was turned down by the Amman Court of First Instance.

"Now the investigation should be concluded and the prosecutor must decide whether to send Dahabi to court for trial or free him on bail if further investigation is required," Keilani said.
