Qatar to spend USD5b to increase power, water capacity 

(MENAFN) Qatar Electricity & Water Company's chief executive, Abdulsattar al-Rasheed, said that by the end of 2013, the country would invest more than USD5 billion to increase power and water output capacity, reported Arabian Business.

Al-Rasheed added that in 2012, Qatar would spend USD2.4 billion and USD2.8 billion next year to boost power and potable water capacity.

He also said that in the 5 years to 2011, the country's electricity demand growth averaged 11.4 percent; however, it dropped to 8.8 percent in 2011.

It is worth noting that Qatar already has 30 percent more power generation capacity than it consumes, permitting the country to sell some to Kuwait and Bahrain.
